Established in 1963, Barry.Nilsson. is a national law firm with a reputation for leadership in the areas of Insurance & Health Law, Property & Commercial Law, Family Law and Wills & Estates. Barry.Nilsson. was founded in 1963 by John Barry and operated as a general commercial and property law firm. In the early 1970s, John's brother David Barry was joined by Jack Nilsson to form Barry & Nilsson. The firm later grew to include the areas of Family Law and Insurance & Health Law, and changed to Barry.Nilsson. in 2010.
In 2014, Barry.Nilsson. expanded its East Coast footprint and established an Insurance & Health practice in Sydney, before establishing operations in Melbourne in 2015. In 2016, the firm celebrated its national expansion, with the addition of a Family Law practice in Melbourne, an expanded Sydney office and the launch of offices in Hobart and Adelaide. In September 2017 the firm completed its national expansion with the launch of its sixth and final office in Perth.
A global beginning
BDO was founded in 1963 with five original member firms in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the US and Canada. These firms formed the Binder Seidman International Group. In 1973, the British, German and Dutch member firms adopted a common name whose acronym has endured for the entire global network. That name was Binder Hamlyn (UK) Dijker & Co (Holland) Otte & Co (Germany). What does BDO stand for? Literally, BDO stands for Binder Dijker Otte.
Growth in Australia
In Australia, BDO was established as an association of firms in 1975. Today, we are one of Australia's largest associations of independently owned accounting practices with offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Sunshine Coast.
BDO in Australia has achieved significant and consistent growth in the past forty years. Highlights include:
1975 - Established as an association of firms in Australia
1988 - BDO Nelson Parkhill merges with Parkhill Stirling to create BDO Nelson Wheeler and establishes offices in each State
2006 - BDO and Horwath networks merge in Australia (included offices in Cairns, Melbourne, Perth and Hobart).
2012 – BDO and PKF East Coast Practice (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) merged in Australia.

Shane has over 30 years experience in the insurance industry with both major insurers and international broking firms. BCS has since grown to include a team comprising of Andrew Campbell, Jason Courtenay, Mandy Valmadre, Tania Stewart and Andy Mellors.
BCS prides itself on not being aligned to any buying group. This means that BCS truly represents the customer and does not rely on any facilities for the placement of our clients’ insurance business. This is then reflected in the coverage and price – providing a truly bespoke solution for every client. BCS does not receive any overriding commissions or profit shares from any Insurer.
BCS was founded on the basis of being a genuine alternative to Tier One broking firms whilst providing the benefits of a boutique insurance brokerage. All of our customers are important to us.
