IMPORTANT | Junior Community COVID-19

To the Easts Junior Community,

As with the rest of the community, Easts Rugby Club is facing extraordinary circumstances relating to the COVID-19 virus. The Club is required to balance the requirements laid down by the Federal Government, as well as Rugby Australia and Brisbane Junior Rugby Union, and the interests of our Junior Community.

As you would all be aware, from today, the Federal Government has limited all “non-essential” gatherings of 500 plus people.

The 2020 season has started as another successful season for the Easts Junior Community. We have in excess of 900 registered Juniors. Our registered numbers continue to grow. Further registrations are expected over the new few weeks. Given the level of Junior participation we enjoy at the Club, our Junior training nights and game days will exceed 500 people – with the involvement of players, siblings and parents at those times.

Easts is a proud community club. We are now the largest junior Club in the state. The Board takes seriously our responsibility as a significant member of the community. The Board is particularly mindful of the safety and well being of our players, family, staff and visitors to the Club – it is one of our overriding priorities.

The Board has cancelled all Junior training and games until after the Easter Holiday break. In the period prior to Easter, there were to be two further weeks of training – and some selection trials for the older age groups. All such training and trials are cancelled from today. It is a decision which the Board considered at length. Whilst no cases of coronavirus have been reported to the Board, we recognise the need to be vigilant and proactive in our response – and mindful of the advice of the government and health authorities. The Board appreciates the support of the Junior community in making this decision.

The Board has stipulated that there is to be no Junior training or games at all in the next two weeks. No individual teams are to hold any training sessions at the Club. Teams are not to participate in any games. No medics will be available for such training or games and it is likely insurance would not cover any injuries suffered during this period given the Club’s decision to cancel training and games.

We are looking forward to re-starting the season post Easter. And continuing on what has been another strong start to the rugby season for the Easts Junior Community.
