Twilight 7s Rules

1. Laws of the Tournament The Tournament will be played under the rules of and in accordance to the Bye Laws, Regulations and Laws of the Game of Rugby Union, with variations under the standard set of laws regarding 7’s rugby where applicable to the underage part of this Tournament ARU Under 19 Law Variations, ARU Pathway Laws Cross-field tackleU10+. 

2. Team Registrations Participation shall be initiated by the calling of nominations and the completion and receipt of Nomination Form via Easts Tigers Clubland. Teams will be confirmed on receipt of Tournament payment (Team Payment – no individual player payments.) 

3. Registration Approval and Player Nomination 

(A)All teams and players are to register through RugbyXplorer and pay subscription fees 

(B) Players must be born in the following years to qualify for age groups 

U9 – Born 2014 or 2015 

U10 – Born 2013 or 2014 

U11 – Born 2012 or 2013 

U12 – Born 2011 or 2012 

U13 – Born 2010 or 2011 

U14 – Born 2009 or 2010 

U15 – Born 2008 or 2009 

U16 – Born 2007 or 2008 

U17 – Born 2006 or 2005 

U18 – Born 2005 or 2006 

(C) Strictly NO 2 YEAR DISPENSATION for the 2023 competition. Players MUST be born in the eligible years for each age group. 

(D)Maximum of ten (10) players per team 

(E) All teams must supply a team manager and coach/co-ordinator (must be Smart Rugby compliant) 

4. Competition Rules All matches are to be played at Easts RUC. The tournament will run for five weeks. The first round of the competition will take place on Friday 18 October – Friday 15 November (Times to be confirmed).

The draw will be made available prior to the competition commencing. Where possible teams will play a minimum of two (2) matches per evening. Each squad will consist of a maximum of 10 players minimum of 7 players all of which must be registered in Rugby Xplorer. The referees are supplied by Easts Rugby Union and will be the sole judge of time. 

The referee’s whistle will signal the start and end of the game. Each game will last seven (7) minutes each half, with not more than one (1) minute interval between halves. 

• All Substitutions must occur only in the event of a stoppage of play and must go through the Referee. 

• There are no conversions after tries due to the game time constraints. 

• This is a junior development competition so no scores or ladders are recorded. 

• All referees and medics are supplied by Easts Rugby Union. The rules of the tournament, including their interpretation, are at the sole discretion of Easts Rugby Union. 

5. Players ordered off the field of play by the appointed referee for misconduct 

• If a player is sent off (red carded) during a game, he may be replaced however will not be permitted to play again that evening. 

• If a player is temporarily suspended (yellow carded) by the referee, he may also be replaced however he must proceed immediately to the sideline. They must remain there for a period of two (2) minutes of playing time. Only the referee may authorise a return to play after a period of temporary suspension and then at the next stoppage of play 

6. Judicial Committee The Judicial Officer (JO) will be appointed by Easts Rugby Union. 

All proceedings will be based on QRU’s Judicial Procedures. A copy of the JO’s findings shall be sent to the player’s Home Union.
